Day 1 - Hello from Sofia!
We are here! All of our flights were uneventful and on time. Can't beat that! As soon as we got here we met our facilitator/translator and our driver (who happens to be her dad). They were both very nice. They took us to exchange money, gave us a cell phone, and got us settled into our hotel. We had the rest of the day to ourselves. First we took some time to check out our room. We are only here one night before we head to Anya's region and then we will be back at this hotel the night of the 11th before flying home! Here are some pictures of our room:
Here is the view from our "balcony" (which is only about 12 inches wide ;). Check out the mountains!
We only have a short amount of time here so we started walking around a bit and found the St. Alexander Nevsky Cathedral. It was amazing inside!
Then we went back to our hotel and had dinner with Connie and Scott who are here on their second trip to pick up their son Ethan. We will fly back with them all the way to D.C. on Saturday! Do we all look jet lagged?!
So that was day 1. Tomorrow we will be picked up at 11 am for a 6 hour drive to Anya's region and I'll blog again tomorrow evening. We are now exhausted and off to bed!

WoW!! I can't believe you were just in St. Louis and now you're...not. It is just so surreal. So happy your travels went smoothly. Nah, you don't look too jet lagged :) The distant view from your hotel is pretty but can't tell what the area immediately around your hotel looked like. Safe travels tomorrow. Can't wait for tomorrow's post!

I know this is not Ukraine, but goodness, it looks so different! I love those little houses and the roofs. Lovely pictures.
How nice you met with other people and at least you get to somehow "journey" with another couple.

Wow! That view is amazing and beautiful - and the colors of the cathedral remind me a lot of the Catholic church around the corner from my house. So gorgeous!
